Your privacy matters. Lettera is built on a simple principle: your writing belongs to you. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect (very little), what we don't collect (your writing), and how we handle everything in between.

1. The short version

Lettera is a local-first desktop application. Your documents, chapters, versions, and notes are stored as files on your computer. We never see, access, collect, or transmit your writing. There is no cloud sync, no account, and no telemetry in the app. Your words stay on your machine.

2. Data we do not collect

Through the Lettera desktop application, we do not collect:

• Your writing, documents, chapters, or any content you create
• Keystroke data or typing patterns
• Usage analytics or telemetry
• Device identifiers or hardware information
• Location data
• Contacts or address book data

Lettera does not phone home. It works entirely offline once installed.

3. Data we may collect

Through the website (getlettera.com)

When you visit our website, we may collect:

• Analytics data: Anonymous, aggregate usage statistics such as page views and referral sources. We use privacy-respecting analytics that do not track individual users or use cookies for tracking.
• Email address: If you voluntarily sign up for our mailing list. Used solely to send product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Through purchases

If you purchase Lettera, payment processing is handled by Lemon Squeezy. We receive your name, email address, and transaction details (amount, date, license key) to fulfill your order. We do not receive or store your credit card number or full payment details. Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy governs their handling of your payment data.

4. Your data responsibilities

Because Lettera stores everything locally on your machine:

• Backups are your responsibility. We recommend regular backups of your writing projects. Lettera's project files are standard folders you can copy, sync to cloud storage, or back up however you prefer.
• Device security is your responsibility. Anyone with access to your computer can access your Lettera files. We recommend using your operating system's built-in security features (passwords, encryption) to protect your work.
• Data recovery is your responsibility. If you delete a project or your hard drive fails, we cannot recover your files. Lettera's Snapshots feature creates local backups, but these are also stored on your machine.

5. Cookies

The Lettera website uses only essential cookies required for basic site functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies. If we use analytics, we use a cookie-free, privacy-respecting solution.

6. Third-party services

We work with a limited number of third-party services:

• Lemon Squeezy — payment processing for purchases
• Vercel — website hosting
• Email provider — for mailing list communications (if applicable)

Each service has its own privacy policy. We choose partners who respect user privacy.

7. Children's privacy

Lettera is a general-purpose writing application and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The desktop application collects no personal information from any user. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided personal information through our website, they should contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Data retention

For website analytics: data is retained in aggregate form and is not linked to individual users. For mailing list subscribers: your email is retained until you unsubscribe. For purchase records: transaction data is retained as required for legal and accounting purposes.

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Request access to any personal data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your personal data (email address, purchase records where legally permissible)
• Unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time
• Request a copy of your data in a portable format
